Jackson Hicks a senior at East Chapel Hill High School

Back on June 30, 2015 Pat James got an email from Jackson Hicks, a senior at  East Chapel Hill High School. After reading an article about Long Ball and our association with Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI). He offered to gather baseball equipment that he and his teammates had outgrown. In the true spirit of sportsmanship he wanted to share with Long Ball and RBI.

Pat explained that since our players span the ages of 13 to 18 and are all sizes, any and all donations would be welcome.

Later in July he got together with Pat and dropped off what he had gathered so far. Here’s a picture of what he had.

Fun At Bat Slots Available!

FunattheBat

There are still a few slots available for Fun At Bat! If your interested in registering your 5 – 6 year old boy or girl, please visit http://funatbat.com/. The classes will take place on Thursdays beginning July 30th at 6:00 pm at Lyon Park Softball Field. All necessary equipment will be provided and participation is free.

Fun At Bat is an enrichment program based in baseball for all children. The overarching goal of this program is to promote fun and active lifestyles for children while teaching them the fundamentals of baseball.  Together, we can make sure kids’ first experience with baseball is positive and enjoyable.

Goals of this program:

  1. Create a positive, fun environment in which children and adults can enjoy the game of baseball.
  2. Promote high self-esteem and self-confidence by giving children the opportunity to learn and succeed in baseball.
  3. Model and teach the fundamentals of healthy competition and emphasize teamwork and good sportsmanship.
  4. Teach fundamental baseball skills and rules.

A new skill will be taught each week along with a championship principle. Championship principles are character building traits that will be taught during the class and applied throughout the season. The lessons will include the two skills being taught and in which ways that was accomplished. Additionally, we will provide helpful tools on how you can continue to work on these skills at home with your children. Each class will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long, with the whole team together for the first 20 minutes doing a fun warm up. The team will then be split in half for 20 minutes of skill stations. After the skills stations, the team will reconvene to play games for 25 minutes. For the last 5 minutes of class, the team will huddle up for a class recap. After class, your child will receive a book that will reinforce the championship principle they learned that day.
